CURIOUS AS TO WHAT COLOR YOUR FOAL WILL BE WHEN CROSSING YOUR CHESTNUT, BAY OR BLACK MARE TO DUDE?
CHESTNUT
OR SORREL MARES- WILL ALWAYS THROW A PALOMINO....
A BAY MARE THAT
IS HETEROZYGOUS FOR THE BLACK FACTOR (TESTS Ee) SHE WOULD THEN THROW 50% PALOMINOS AND 50% BUCKSKINS.
A
BAY MARE THAT IS HOMOZYGOUS FOR THE BLACK FACTOR ( EE) THEN SHE WILL THROW A BUCKSKIN EVERY TIME!
DUDE
CAN NEVER PRODUCE A RED COLORED FOAL.
YOU WILL NEVER GET A BAY WHEN BREEDING TO DUDE.
NOW
WITH MANY PERLINOS AND CREMELLOS A POSSIBILITY OF CREATING A SMOKEY BLACK FOAL EXISITS.
DUDE
HAS BEEN UC DAVIS TESTED AND IS HOMOZYGOUS FOR BOTH THE RED TEST AND AGOUTI TEST AND NO SOLID BLACK GENE IS PRESENT. HE CAN'T
MAKE A BLACK OR SMOKEY BLACK FOAL.
The first link is to an informative
site that does genetics testing ( in case you want your mare tested) And it also has a foal color predictor. Click on the
link below. When predicting foal color enter Cremello for Dude in the first box then enter homozygous for Agouti for Dude
and then of course your mare's color. There is no gray color listed- grey is not a color but a modifier, kinda like the dilute
modifier that makes a palomino or a buckskin.
The second link gives
you anything you want to know about Cremellos and perlinos. Check them out!
